2012 Conceito Contraste
Conceito is the brainchild of young, female Rita Marquez (nee. Ferreira), an unusual feat in the macho world of Portuguese winemaking. From a family with roots in the Douro Rita is now regarded as one of the most exciting, interesting and experimental producers in the region producing both traditional port styles as well as table wines. She is a frequent collaborator with other winemakers and her experimental wines are (such as a Methode-style Gruner Veltliner grown in the Douro are as delicious as they are innovative. This is a table red made from the holy-trinity of port grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinto Roriz (aka Tempranillo). It is powerful, rich, expressive and like all of Rita’s wines has a feminity and grace uncommon for the region.
