2012 Rolly Gassmann Pinot Gris
Alsace's Rolly Gassmann are a legendary producer who age thier wines for incredibly long periods before release and whose wines are among the most insanely rich and concentrated. Alsace-Wine.net describes them thus: "The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness." Thier Pinot Gris has long been my favourite and is textbook Rolly Gassmann: rich, creamy, intense and delicious. Complex with baked apple, stonefruit and citrus with a hint of spice and intense minerality. It has decent residual sweetness typical of the wines but still has fantastic acidity and the capicity to age gracefully for another 10 years.
