2013 The 3rd Man Semillon Sauvignon
This is an opulent, textural Bordeaux-Blanc like blend from Canterbury. Vibrantly fruited passionfruit and guava, a hint of smoky oak and waxiness coming from bottle age.
From the label:
This single vineyard blend of Semillon and Sauvingon Blanc was hand harvested from selected rows on the Glasnevin Gravels, in the Waipara Valley. After sorting, the grapes were pressed and fermented in seasoned French Oak barrels using wild yeasts from the vineyard. The wine was aged on lees for 9 months to develop weight and complexity.
"It is a classic Bordeaux blend, yet the style is rare in New Zealand. This is a delightful example displaying rich and complex aromas of ripe citrus, beeswax and almond with a hint of dried herb complexity. The palate is weighty and textural, and offers firm structure and lovely mouthfeel. Stylish, engaging and food-friendly. At its best: now to 2019." 91/100 - Sam Kim
