2015 Michel Savel Les Marecos Blanc
Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet was created by vigneron Hervè Souhaut in 1993 with just 5 hectares between Northern Rhône and Southern Ardèche. Employing organics and natural winemaking philosophies to all his wines since day one, Hervè is one of the most respected winemakers in France and his elegant, simple labels have become one of the most easily recognized. Hervè’s wines are all cool-climate, high-altitude expressions from granite-heavy soils. Always picked early, they are deeply aromatic yet light and expressive. The fruit is hand harvested, using mostly whole bunches, and fermented long, cold and slow and matured on fine lees in aged oak barriques. All bottled without fining or filtration. The Hervè Souhaut/Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet label is 100% Hervè Souhaut. The Les Marécos Rouge and Blanc wines are part of a méteyage (sharecropping) agreement between Michel Savel and Hervè Souhaut where Hervè farms the fruit and makes the wine, taking the end product as payment. Sounds odd but seems to work! Marécos Blanc is a Viognier/Roussanne blend. 36 bottles released in New Zealand.
