2016 Honoro Vera Garnacha
This is just about one of the most striking bottles we have seen in ages AND what is in the bottle is even more impressive. Powerfully rich and muscular and packed full of wild raspberry, strawberry and truffle with a long spicy finish. It is from 30 - 40 y/o vineyards farmed 700 - 900 metres above sea level and unlike a lot of Spanish wine is vinified in French Oak (rather than American) giving the wine a stylish, round, savoury complexity without OTT vanillin. James Suckling describes the wine this, giving the wine a score of 91/100 - a real testiment to a sub-$25 red.
"This shows ripe red and black fruit such as cherries, plums and currants with violet and earth undertones. Medium body, soft and light tannins and a medium, fresh and earthy finish. From 100% garnacha. Drink now."
