2015 Savage Follow the Line
The 2015 Savage Follow the Line is the second vintage of what I think is inarguably the most exciting wine release of 2015. It is Cinsault dominant - complex, powerful, composed and intense without being over the top or heavy. It is made by Duncan Savage in South Africa's Western Cape and the 2015 has been getting as good and better reviews as the 2014. Tim Atkin describes it as "A wine that just gets better with every vintage, this Cinsault-based cuvée with Grenache and Syrah comes from Darling and Piekenierskloof. Old wood, 20% whole bunches, great vineyards and one of the most gifted winemakers in the Cape have resulted in a pure, refreshing, almost Pinot Noir-like red that’s floral, complex and deceptively light on colour and tannin." Greg Sherwood MW gives it a whopping 95/100 score describing it as "Supremely balanced fruits dance on the tongue... wild forest strawberries, red bramble berries, and red pithy cherries. This wine promises excitement, optimism and energy and does not fail to deliver. This is no frivolous wine mind you, with its serious structure, chalky tannins and sappy spice lingering long on the finish. It's a wine for the new, modern generation of connoisseurs."
