2016 TINCAN Cult Crimson
TINCAN is a new natural label from viticulturist and winemaker Nick Candy. Nick has put in the yards at all corners of the industry from big-boys McWilliams, Yealands, Pernod Ricard and vine-propagation nursery Riversun to smaller high-end producers in the Hunter Valley, Paso Robles, Rhone and Martinborough. He and his partner have recently purchased a small vineyard just out of Mapua in Nelson and these are his first wines.
Cult Crimson is a blend of 65% carbonic fermented Pinot blended with 20% Syrah and a splash of Pinot Gris. The wine is full and rich with spicy dark plums and a hint of chocolate. It has youthful (carbonic) zest that gives freshness and fragrance without dumbing down the wine to the point of it being frivolous or simple, Syrah gives spice and tannin and the Gris provides a combination of freshness and weight.
The wines are made with no added sulfites.
