2016 TINCAN Wilful White
TINCAN is a new natural label from viticulturist and winemaker Nick Candy. Nick has put in the yards at all corners of the industry from big-boys McWilliams, Yealands, Pernod Ricard and vine-propagation nursery Riversun to smaller high-end producers in the Hunter Valley, Paso Robles, Rhone and Martinborough. He and his partner have recently purchased a small vineyard just out of Mapua in Nelson and these are his first wines.
Willful White is an interesting blend of 65% skin fermented pinot gris blended with a field blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. The wine is luscious and rich - while dominated by its skin tannins the back blending of white wine gives the wine freshness, acid, life and aromatic lift. It's a stunner - full of depth and concentration.
The wines are made with no added sulfites.
